Zoe Mulford with Emily Mure

Zoe Mulford

7:00PM

Zoe Mulford is a quietly powerful performer. Her clear voice draws listeners in, and her evocative story-telling and impish humor invite them to stay. Backed by guitar or claw-hammer banjo, her songs draw on the traditional music of North America and the British Isles to make sense of the modern world.
She has been described as “a brilliant, highly original songwriter who delivers her music with warmth, sincerity and a bit of a twinkle” by Rich Warren, host of “Midnight Special” on Chicago’s WFMT-FM. Her songs touch on everything from polar exploration to the Warner Brothers’ cartoons. Her account of the 2015 shooting at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, “The President Sang hAmazing Grace,” caught the attention of Joan Baez, who covered it on her 2018 album “Whistle Down the Wind.” Baez told NPR, “It’s an amazing little tune. When I first heard it, I had to pull the car over, because I started crying.”
Zoe grew up near Philadelphia and later lived for twelve years in Durham, NC, where she learned to play the guitar in local picking circles and fell in love with the clawhammer banjo. Four years in Washington, DC introduced her to the community of contemporary songwriters, including the Azalea City Recordings cooperative label, which has released her five albums to date. In 2006, she moved to the north of England. She now tours on both sides of the Atlantic.

Emily Mure

7:00PM

New York City native Emily Mure has journeyed from playing concert halls as a classically trained oboist to busking as a singer-songwriter on the streets of Ireland. Her new album, Worth, brings together all of her rich experiences as a musical traveler, spotlighting both her technical ability and gift for vulnerable, heartfelt songwriting.
Mure co-produced the album with Dan Cardinal (Darlingside, Josh Ritter, Ballroom Thieves), with Zachariah Hickman (Josh Ritter, Ray LaMontagne) performing the majority of instruments on this record. Jeff Lipton (Andrew Bird, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver) mastered the album in Boston. Worth was released to critical acclaim. The record climbed to #7 on The Folk DJ Chart and Mure was the #9 Top Artist in September 2017. Mure’s songwriting, which she began cultivating during her years at Ithaca College, has been recognized in prestigious national competitions (Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival) and has been featured on networks including NBC, ABC and PBS.
