Grey Spat Matters...and so does Guided By Voices!

Last Friday night at The Grey Eagle saw Ohio's legendary rockers Guided By Voices put on an explosive show for a nearly packed venue. With their most recent release Space Gun having just come out back in March, the crowd was hyped up and ready to have a good time. The front row loudly chanted “GBV! GBV! GBV!” as the clock neared 9:30, with the show originally listed as starting right at 9.

It wasn't too long after the chants died down that the lights dimmed and the band strutted out on stage to a whimsical, vintage instrumental recording. The whole place went crazy as the five members made their way to their respective places––all wearing black jackets emblazoned with the word's “Space Gun” of course.

They opened up with the hard-hitting title song off their latest release, and the crowd instantly connected and began jumping around and bobbing their heads along to the music. Frontman (and musical mastermind) Robert Pollard was swinging his mic around and embodying all the aural energy being emitted.

The rest of the evening was a joyous romp around their insanely extensive musical catalog, with a bunch of rare cuts and crowd favorites. It was pretty clear they were having a ton of fun and really loving the vibes that Asheville was giving them. They communicated with the crowd in the friendliest of ways and made everybody feel like they were rockstars themselves––and that's what it's all about.
